Growing up in the South in Carver Homes (affectionately known as the Bricks), one of Atlanta's largest housing projects, I didn't know I was poor. Simple summertime joys like picnics, catching lightning bugs, and outdoor games like 1-2-3 redlight made my childhood memorable. Maybe we're tempted to compare ourselves to others. Sometimes we wonder if we're good enough. Sometimes we try to change ourselves to impress others. Is the effort and pain worth it? One of the best gifts we can give to ourselves is just loving and accepting ourselves just as we are. It's okay to admire the beauty and talent of others, but you better love what God gave you and work with it.
